So I'm here! I've been here a week actually. But I have had about zero free time with orientation and meeting new people and gathering all I need. I love it here. That simple of a sentence describes it all. I love it. I'm meeting amazing people. I'm falling in love with this city.
I'm not quite sure how to say all I want without writing a novel. I guess I'll start with people. I've been spending most of my time with Selina(fellow MoHo) and Ro(who we met at orientation). I met some very cool people at the international student social thingy - Angela, Andrea, Live, and Maike. We had an amazing time together at the social and then went out to a pub afterwords where I bought my first pint. It was quite exciting! I've gotten together with them other nights too and they're great fun. All my flatmates moved in the last 2 days - Megan, Amy, Lizzy, and Karen. We get along very well and they are all really nice. I feel so old though! They are all 17 or 18. Haha. I things that what happens to study abroad students though we get put in housing with all the freshers. I have a feeling our flat is going to be very fun.
Our flat is nice. I'll link to pictures later and you can see my room. So we each have our own room and we share one bathroom(I suppose I should start calling it toilet like everyone else), two showers, and a nice big kitchen.
The campus here is gorgeous. Mount Holyoke is beautiful but this is a whole different kind of beautiful. (I'll like to pictures of campus too). It's like a mix of real and not - kinda feels like going to Hogwarts. The architecture is astounding and so many buildings are so old. I really can't describe it.
I've done all sorts of fun things, but everything is exciting because it's all so new. Today was the first day of fresher's week. So there are things happening all the time. I had to buy a pass but it will be soooo worth it. Tonight I'm going to see The Futureheads - not a band I know well but it should be so much fun. I've gone into city center a few times so far. Mostly in the shopping area but we also adventured over to Glasgow School of Art because my friend Ro and I are taking classes there (I'll say more about that in a bit). I haven't done any super touristy things yet, but I will. And I want to go on lots of day trips to places outside Glasgow as well.
And now for the school stuff - I'm taking 4 classes this semester and 3 next semester. That is because the art classes at GSA are half the number of credits as classes usually are. But yes you did read that right. I am taking art classes. Two actually - Rendering the Human Form(drawing and painting) and Black and White Photography. I'll never come across and opportunity like this again. I am so excited for these classes. I am also taking a class called Celtic Civilizations. I'm in level 2A(the "A", so that covers from 1066-1603. It's basically a history class and it should be very interesting. Last but not least is Scottish Literature 2A. This is kinda the odd last minute class. Originally I was going to take 3A but it conflicts with the art classes and I was not willing to give those up. So 2A covers Lit from 1375 to 1540. And although this is not generally the area of Lit I like it is on Romance, Fable, and Satire which sounds interesting. And it will also finish a requirement for my major at MHC which will be very useful.
Well I think that is about all I have to say. Let me know what you want to hear more about and I'll write about it! Here are the pictures!
